International Cooperation and Development
The social responsibility of the UVic, in the context of international relations and cooperation, focuses on support for shared actions between countries, cultures and organisations.
The aim of university cooperation is to contribute, through awareness, to transformation of living conditions and respect of human rights for all.
Because of its political dimension, cooperation is an educational challenge for UVic and the whole university community, not only in terms of training and research into injustice and exclusion, but also through the ethical dimension that we must introduce into higher education.
UVic began its cooperation work in 1997 and is currently working on projects in Nicaragua, Guatemala, Honduras, Cuba and Morocco, mainly in the fields of education, health and nutrition. UVic, together with the Centre for Women and Literature of the University of Barcelona, hosts a UNESCO Chair for Women, Development and Culture, whose mission is carry out studies of gender, development and cultural diversity with the aim of contributing to the construction of societies that are more just and tolerant of differences.
UVic also works on projects within the framework of the Vives University Network and is a member of various organisations of solidarity and cooperation at a regional and national level.
